Audio & Visual Thinking

Interesting to note the conversations now raging around the true fact that aural and visual, indeed all senses are critical to a rich and full life and of course by default – thinking. I never get fed up watching the Etienne de Crecy’s videos and his Structured Visual Thinking. A great reminder of what I really feel and mean about the combination of the senses.

Side Note: Because reading and writing were learned by teacher and pupil reading out loud, it was presumed that the only way to read was out loud – it being a function of the brain and the mouth/voicebox combined. The word ‘auditing’ comes from hearing – accounts would always be read aloud to those concerned. There’s a reference in the writings of St Augustine when he was describing St Ambrose reading. “A remarkable thing…when he was reading, his eye glided over the pages and his heart sensed out the sense but his voice and tongue were at rest”.
